July Buck Moon: The Moon for Ambition and Change

Summer is finally in full swing! In June, the Summer Solstice marks the official start of summer. The sun is shining longer, filling our days with beautiful daylight and brightness. Our days are longer, allowing us more daylight hours to accomplish our goals. Now is the time to enjoy summer with celebrations and gatherings outside. Enjoy your spare time, take it easy and embrace relaxing on a hot summer day. We are also surrounded by more masculine energy this month. In July our energy is peaking in the summer season.

We are experiencing more masculine energy because the July Full Moon is known as the Buck Moon. During the Buck Moon season, male deer are growing antlers to attract potential mates. They will fight other males to assert their dominance and win over females. Native American tribes in North America noticed this phenomenon and thus the Buck Moon was designated. The July Full Moon is also known as the Thunder Moon. This is the month where thunderstorms are strong and frequent. Farmers also call this moon the Hay Moon to signify the harvest of hay for winter. Other names include Rose Moon, Wort Moon, and Blessing Moon. For Europeans, the Rose moon name comes from the abundance of roses this season. While the Wort Moon signifies the time to collect wort plants for medicine and remedies. The Blessing Moon is also another common name for the July Moon. It represents the celebration of the abundance that the earth is providing right now. The earth is providing us with many resources and now is the time where we are starting to collect what we have developed and grown. Many of us feel grateful and blessed with the resources and opportunities that are coming forward this month.

In July there is more ambitious, competitive, strong and masculine energy to help us push ahead. This month we want to see more progress and complete every task set forth. Many of us have a powerful will to push forward with a sense of urgency. The last six months have certainly felt like they passed by so quickly! We are in the middle of the year now, so we might feel we are running out of time. We are feeling more disciplined and ambitious, so we might get carried away with work and life commitments. With longer days, the urge to want to complete every single to-do and task is strong. As much as we want to complete everything, we shouldn’t. If we go down that path we will end up using all our energy, resources and motivation. On the other end of the spectrum, this is not the time to completely abandon ship. This is a good time to use some of this drive to prioritize the most important tasks that will allow long-term growth. Once the important work is done, save your energy for activities that bring you joy, that are relaxing and allow you to celebrate the summer season.

As the midpoint of the year, summer reminds us we have been working hard this past year. Now is the time to sit back, relax and try to regain some energy and motivation we may have lost. You can’t live a life with “All work, and no play!” Don’t let your over ambitious drive let you miss summer! During the July Buck Full Moon be productive but take the time to enjoy the longer daylight hours and sunshine!

July Full Moon in Capricorn

During the Buck Moon in July, the Full Moon will be in the sign of Capricorn. The energy of Capricorn helps us focus on our career and public life. Capricorn is a responsible, disciplined, rational, and ambitious sign. When the moon is in Capricorn, we will feel more goal oriented and have a growing sense of our responsibilities. With Capricorn’s hardworking and practical nature, we will be busy on this full moon. Our obligations become our top priority. We might feel the need to finish extensive projects or plan the next big steps in our careers. If we take advantage of this energy, this will help propel us in the right direction toward success. This energy will help drive us with purpose, responsibility, and maturity.

During the Capricorn full moon, our sense of duty to help others will be strong. Capricorn is a very reliable and accountable sign that values its reputation above all else. You can always count on Capricorn to keep an appointment, lend a helping hand, and stay true to their word. Capricorn energy wants to contribute to a better society using our innate talents and skills. Capricorn energy thrives when we have a sense of duty and responsibility. As a result, the energy of Capricorn lends itself to helping others.

This moon also calls us to look within and trust your inner voice with what you value. This can be tricky as Capricorn wants to focus on our obligations in the public sphere, while the moon calls us inward to pause, feel and reflect. The moon’s inner energy is even more amplified as July is in the sign of Cancer. Cancer energy relates to our emotions, family, and home.

Cancer’s energy is most at home when we are tuned inward with our emotions. This is important for this full moon, as we will need to balance our inner (private) and outer (public) spheres. When the full moon is in Capricorn, we will have a sense of duty to others and ourselves.
